The education levels of the United States population reached an all time high, according to Census 2000. Of the 182.2 million people aged 25 and over on April 1, 2000, 80 percent had a high school diploma or more, and 24 percent had completed at least a bachelor's degree.
In 2000, most people 25 years and over in the United States had earned a high school diploma or higher degree. The three most commonly achieved education levels were high school graduate (29 percent), bachelor's degree (16 percent), and 1 or more years of college, but no degree (14 percent). More than1 in 20 people had obtained a master's degree (6 percent), an associate degree (6 percent), or completed some college, but less than 1 year (7 percent).
